Welcome

i hate the word blog. Just like the words "soy" and "moist". Don't like'm.
i DO like the Toronto Music Scene. If there is a city in the world that has as good a mix of quality musicians, writers, improvisers, experimenters, singers, performance artists, rockers, blah blah... i don't believe it.

i live in Toronto. i play in a few bands, and join in improvisational sets. i go see live music or play live music about 3 times a week. So, i figured i'd share some of the experiences i have. Cause they're freakin' amazing sometimes. . Most of the time. Honestly, it's pretty rare that i'm not impressed slightly. And i can be judgemental.

Like, Roflcopter. They're a band that plays "songs". They seem to have their banter rehearsed. They sing about their drummer not making it to rehearsal. So the drummer wasn't in on the banter. He wasn't ready I guess. They blew chunks. Trying too hard to be cool. i hope their drummer quits.

There, see? i can be judgemental. i don't like everything. but i will mostly focus on stuff i like. and sometimes i will have to tell you about stuff that i was a part of, but i will try to make this not so much about me.

Like, Woodhands at Wavelength (Sneaky Dee's). This was one of thee best shows i'd seen at the wavelength series. Woodhands is an electro punk dance band that makes you move and sweat and love synth. i mean if you don't already.
i will first talk about the awesomeness of Paul Banwatt on drums. the guy's a maniac. he plays live drums along with the synths, and beeps, and clicks, and he doesn't miss a beat. PLUS, he adds the most violant drum rolls into the mix. blew my head right off.
next i will talk about the greatness of Dan Werb. he loves to have a good time. his music makes sure that other people have a great time. he's all over the place with his fingers. i think that's why the women love him. he's skilled and wild. that's a dangerous combo right there.
the crowd went nuts before Dan said, 1-2-3-4. i haven't seen that kind of mosh pitting since me and my cat Weeners got drunk off Skreetch one night and listened to Rage Against The Machine.

that was one helluva night.
